Nasal Polyps Cancer
In the United States. Less than 50 cases of nasal cancer are diagnosed annually. Although squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type of cancer that occurs in the nose, including adenocarcinoma, melanoma, various types of sarcomas, inverted papilloma, lymphoma, and esthesioneuroblastoma which can also occur.
Squamous cell carcinomas arise from skin tissues, including the most common type and frequently results either smoking or exposure to dust or chemical fumes.
Adenocarcinoma is a malignancy that resembles glandular tissue. Adenocarcinoma of the nose are also often associated with exposure to dust or chemical fumes.
T-cell lymphoma (Non-Hodgkins) in the nose area is strongly associated with the virus (Epstein-Barr virus, EBV). Although nasal T-cell lymphoma is quite common in some parts of the world, but they are very rare in the United States.
Inverted papilloma associated with other viruses (human papilloma virus, HPV) and arise from nasal polyps benign but locally invasive. They are rare, comprising only about 0.5% of all nasal tumors. Although the exact relationship with HPV has been proven, the tumor may require interaction of the virus with chemicals or other factors, which appear to cause the transformation of inverted papilloma into squamous cell carcinoma in the nose.
Esthesioneuroblastoma nasal tumors are very rare, with less than 200 cases reported in the last 25 years. They are tumors that arise in the nerves in the nose, and has occurred most often in teenagers and senior citizens.
