Experts report that taking selenium may include a lower risk of bladder cancer symptoms, especially for women. Selenium is a mineral that comes from plant foods. It is also found in Brazil nuts. Adults with low blood levels of the mineral selenium are more likely to develop bladder cancer.
In this study, the researchers combined information from seven previously published work to conduct their own meta-analysis. They examined levels of selenium extracted from nail clippings and blood samples and determined the risk of each subject developing bladder cancer.
they found a 39% reduction in bladder cancer for those with the highest levels of selenium in the blood. Protective benefit seen mainly in women, and the team believes that this might be due to differences in how men and women's bodies break down and remove the minerals.
Researchers will look at dose response relationship so that the recommended daily intake can be regulated. There may also be a subset of the general population who need more selenium supplements - this will also be identified in future studies.
Currently the recommended daily allowance for selenium is 55 micro grams, and the National Institutes of Health of Americans believe that most diets supply enough of this mineral, and that nothing can exceed 400 micro grams of selenium daily.
In the United States, most of us get our selenium from meat and bread source. Experts argue that the deficiency is rare in the U.S., but seen in other countries, like China and New Zealand, where the ground naturally have less selenium.
Our body uses selenium to make selenoproteins that work as antioxidants in the body to prevent cell damage.
In nature, soil content of selenium determines the selenium content of crops grown in or animals grazed on it. Experts know that the land in the highlands of northern Nebraska and Dakota have very high levels of selenium. People who live in this area generally have high levels of selenium in their blood.
In addition to Brazil nuts are delicious, some sources of selenium include all other natural: Cow-Cod-Tuna-Turkey, light-meat Chicken Breast, meat only-Enriched noodles, macaroni
- Egg-Cottage cheese-Oatmeal, instant-Rice, white, enriched, long grain, brown-bread, white or whole-wheat Cheddar Cheese.
consider the evidence that eating a balanced diet and make lifestyle choices that reduce risk for the disease the best bet to protect your body from some pretty serious health problems ... today and in the future.
